ROB-JAN DE JONG

Rob-Jan de Jong (1966, Maastricht, The Netherlands) is founder of Vongolo Consulting, a consulting boutique that combines strategy and leadership development, with cultural transformation and company engagement in novel and refreshing ways. Rob-Jan is a behavioural strategist, who fuses strategy with psychology. He is a world-class expert on the topic of vision development as a leadership quality, and speaks, teaches, consults and writes about this and related subjects such as narcissistic leaders, (avoiding) tunnel vision, unlocking imagination, challenging assumptions, early noticing and responsible, future-oriented leadership.

His book ‘Anticipate – The Art of Leading by Looking Ahead’ was published by AMACOM, New York (Jan. 2015). It has been endorsed by CEO’s such as Paul Polman (Unilever), as well as renown leadership academics such as Michael Maccoby and Jim Keen. In executive education, he has facilitated numerous sessions, in academic environments and various in-house company programs. He is associated with the Wharton School of Business, Thunderbird School of Global Management and Nyenrode Business University (The Netherlands). Rob-Jan teaches on subjects related to Visioning, Innovation and Decision Making, with a behavioural economics approach.

As an executive educator, he is an advocate of experiential learning. He aims to create highly interactive, exploratory learning environments through original design and healthy provocation. He strongly believes any organisation is collectively more knowledgeable about its business and its future than any outside consultant is or could be. His dialogue structures and learning formats are therefore aimed at enabling leaders to lead through clear direction setting, responsible decision making, inspiration and authenticity.

Rob-Jan has been involved in a wide variety of projects, across several industries and countries, working with profit and non-profit organisations. He has worked extensively in engineering cultures (Schneider Electric, RasGas, BP, Total Oil, Quaker Chemical, Bekaert, NEM), the financial sector (ING Bank, ABN AMRO Bank, Intertrust, ASR Insurance, Leaseplan, Sabanci Holding, Eczacıbaşı), health care (Novo Nordisk, Genzyme, Teleflex, Danone Medical), media (TMG, RTL, Sky Radio Group, Reed Elsevier, Keesing), government and non-profit (the Pentagon, Government of Dubai, Red Cross) and a range of other organisations. He holds an MSc degree in Econometrics from Erasmus University, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Currently he divides his time between strategy consulting, leadership development and participation in several innovative companies. Rob-Jan lives with Inge, is father of twins (two 11 year old boys to whom he is also a soccer coach) and resides in the Netherlands.
